| After 6 weeks of lamenting (dust, ashes, torn garments,
breast-beating, uncontrollable wailing, etc.) the Bears’ Super Bowl loss, it’s
finally time to return to 21st century society; thus, I post
happenings in my life on a public website instead of calling my friends and
having meaningful, personal interaction.
Sigh.
Update 1 I’ve just returned from a 5-day stay in Los Angeles sporting
a black eye for being an aggressive rebounder and only 5 feet 8 inches tall –
in other words, my eyes are at elbow level with most rebounding basketball
players. The primary purpose of my
visit was to hang out with 3 of my best buds and to check out Fuller
Theological Seminary in Pasadena.
Mission accomplished. Lord
willing, Robin and I will be in Southern California by August. Update 2 Robin and I get married in less than 4
months!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Update 3 After years of stubborn refusal and successful avoidance of
perhaps the greatest temptation in the history of humanity, I finally caved a
few weeks ago… and started reading Harry Potter. Indulgence, it turns out, was the true path to righteousness all
along.
I read the six books in 2 weeks, and I have already read the
6th book twice. I began reading
them, honestly, to share in something that Robin enjoys in reciprocation for
the many weeks she watched football from October-January. Now, having read them through and loved
every minute, I’ll probably read them again and again to sieve through the major
and minor details of narrative and dialogue for any hint, any sign, of what
might be coming in the final book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I finished book 6 no more than a week ago,
yet I’m already overwhelmed with anticipation for the 7th and final
installment.
Questions you should be pondering:
- Will Harry survive the final showdown with You-Know-Who?
- Was Dumbledore wrong?
Who is trustworthy?
- Will romantic interests remain consistent, or will they change
with the events in Deathly Hallows?
- Who is R.A.B.? (Regalus Black?)
- If you don't know what I'm talking about, then you need to get reading, don't you?

| So, as most of you know, I am a die hard Bears fan. I love Chicago Bears football. Yesterday was a great day of Bears football for many reasons: #1) The Bears won 39-14. Sweet. Just sweet. #2) HOW they won. They ran the ball for 196 yards and 3 TDs. The defense forced 4 turnovers. The Quarterback protected the football. That's how you win playoff football games. That's real football. #3) Reggie Bush taunted Brian Urlacher. And the Saints didn't score another point. Way to go, rookie. #4) Drew Brees turned in the lesser of the two QB performances. He had more yards and more TDs than Grossman, but he personally had 3 turnovers to Rex's 0. 3 Turnovers that led to 17 Bears points. Can someone say "Bad Grossman"-esque? #5) Every ESPN analyst got to eat his/her words about Rex Grossman and the Bears team as a whole. They all picked the Bears to lose by 10-14 points, and their reasons were a turnover-prone QB and a penetrable defense. The Bears won by 25. Rex had 0 turnovers. The defense allowed 2 big plays all game. Time for some respect to be given to the Bears, don't you think?
Super Bowl XLI Who: Chicago Bears vs. Indianapolis Colts Where: Miami, FL (in person) or CBS When: February 4th, 5pm CST Why: To be the best football team in the NFL Current Line: Colts favored by 7.
It's gonna be a great game -- DAAAAAAAA BEARS!

| I just had the unique privilege of attending back-to-back Cubs night games at Wrigley Field. Suffice it to say, it was all I hoped it would be and more... Night #1: Cubs 14, Brewers 6 -- Tickets were $10 each Braden and I started in the 7th row of section 430, which is the lower UD section right at 1st base. Great seats. But we went to the "Big Dawgs" concession stand first and got foot-long hot dogs. Mine was a chili-cheese dog, and Braden got all sorts of crap on his. Cubbies had a 5-run 5th inning and we decided to move down to better seats after the inning was over. We got 5th row seats in section 236, perfect view of the field minus the back right-field corner. Braden coaxed me to try and get closer still, and we ended up in section 136, 10-15 rows from the field. It was wonderful. And the Cubbies romped all over the Brewers.
Night #2: Cubs 3, Brewers 2 -- Tickets were $6 each Amber had never been to a Cubs game until last night. She got a fantastic first game. Emily, David, Amber and I started in the 4th row of section 525, almost behind home plate in the UD. Amazing full-field view. The game was a defensive battle, the Brewers striking first and scoring two runs by the 6th inning. During the top of the 6th, we moved from our seats to the 3rd row of section 238. These are sweet seats because you are on a small incline and facing directly towards the pitcher's mound. We had hot dogs, cheese fries, nachos, and cracker jack. The Cubs came back to win the game in the bottom of the 9th inning on a home run, a double, a walk, a bloop single (loading the bases), and a single to win the game. What a game, what a team...
